The Easy To Wear Autumn Beauty Trends

Try The Trend - Autumn

Sound the seasonal switch-up klaxon! As September creeps ever closer, so too does the big shift from summer beauty to the richer shades of her autumnal sister. We’re talking darker eyes, more daring lips, and letting a little of your teenaged gothic tendencies slip back into your makeup bag. Just us?

Cast your minds back to March and the AW16 fashion weeks, and you’ll find some of the most exciting micro-trends that will be influencing beauty this season. Forget intricate braids or overly-complicated contouring – this autumn, it’s all about easy tweaks with big impact.

We’ve put our heads together to choose our favourite trends for the season ahead – and we’ve given them a go ourselves. Autumn, we’re ready for you!

Grown-Up Glitter - Chelsey - Autumn Beauty Trends

1) Grown-Up Glimmer

As seen at: Burberry, Giambattista Valli, Tommy Hilfiger
Normally reserved for the Christmas countdown (with a little hangover around New Year), glittery and metallic accents were big news on the AW16 runways. Glimmer isn’t the easiest of things to incorporate into your day-to-day look, but we think we’ve found a way. The new Givenchy Liner Vinyl Eyeliner in 03 Heroic Silver from their amazing Superstellar autumn collection (see all of the swatches here) is the perfect way to add a bit of ‘zhuzh’ to your eyes. Above, we lined the eye with the Givenchy Liner Vinyl in Black Vinyl, and then added a thin line of Heroic Silver for a flash of on-trend intrigue.

The New Red - Emma - Autumn Beauty Trends

2) The New Red

As seen at: Rodarte, Prada, Erdem
Yes, we know. Red for autumn? Groundbreaking. But don’t be so hasty, because this season red has been revamped in a deliciously edgy way. Rodarte wore it blackened. Prada wore it pillarbox. But our favourite was Erdem, whose perfectly-imperfect smudged oxblood red was so seasonal, it instantly put us in the mood for stormy weather and black-on-black layering. We tried the trend here by drawing the Shiseido Smoothing Lip Pencil in BR706 all over the lip, followed up with GIVENCHY Rouge Interdit Vinyl in 12 Grenate Envoutant, which is a sleek and subtly glossy take on deep berry red. Pair it with fresh skin and lightly groomed brows for complete autumnal bliss.

Statement Lashes - Ceryn - Autumn Beauty Trends

3) Statement Lashes

As seen at: Dior, Jason Wu, Anna Sui
This season sees ultra-length, ultra-definition and ultra-volume for lashes as standard. At Dior, lashings upon lashings of mascara were paired with a deep oxblood lip. At Jason Wu, clumped baby doll lashes were made all the more stark with a nude lip. And at Anna Sui? Well, there was a combination of the two! We achieved the look here with the ‘are you sure you’re not wearing falsies?’ Laura Geller Drama Lash Mascara, which lifts lashes up and out to their fullest potential. The wide-awake effect will help you cheat your way to looking like you’ve had a full night’s sleep in just a few seconds. Bonus.

Deep Side Part - Emma - Autumn Beauty Trends

4) The Deep Side Part

As seen at: Proenza Schouler, Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney

Ready for the easiest way to update your hair for autumn? Try a deep side parting! This vintage throwback will be everywhere this autumn, from side-parted finger waves to sleek and graphic side-parted ponies. No matter how you prefer to wear your hair, changing up your parting will give your look a new lease of life. The only rule is this: keep the parting sharp. From there, the world is your oyster. For the look above, we used a tail comb to achieve a clean line, and then created a casual low bun with a little help from the Bumble and bumble Styling Creme (AKA the ultimate does-it-all styling aid).

Super-Healthy Glow - Ceryn - Autumn Beauty Trends

5) The Super Healthy Sheen

As seen at: Isabel Marant, Peter Pilotto, Valentino
From skin to lips to eyelids, a low-key, healthy-looking sheen is the biggest news for skin. An easy way to achieve it is by adding a little glow enhancement at every stage of your routine. We layered up the luminosity with the Laura Geller Spackle Tinted Under Makeup Primer in Champagne, and then followed with the luminous Clarins True Radiance Perfect Skin Foundation. A touch of Laura Geller Baked Highlighter Duo in Portofino/French Vanilla on the high points of the face and a little Michael Kors Lip Lustre in Dew on the lips shoots up the radiance factor up into the stratosphere.

Smoked Out Eye - Chelsey - Autumn Beauty Trends

6) Smoked Out Eyes

As seen at: Elie Saab, Versace, Moschino

On the more intense side of things is this sumptuous smoke out, which gave the glamorous models at Elie Saab some added edge. The trick with this strong eye look is to start off small and then build up your colour as this will allow you to control the shape and the gradient. We applied the Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Colour in BK912 Caviar all over the lid, and blended up and out to create this hazy, smoky effect. A touch of bareMinerals Lasting Line Eyeliner in Absolute Black along the upper and lower lashlines and on the waterline really ups the intensity. Finish up with a few coats of sooty mascara, and you’re set.

Low Ponytail - Ceryn - Autumn Beauty Trends

7) The Low Ponytail

As seen at: Victoria Beckham, Prabal Garung, Roksanda

Simple, sleek and oh-so easy to achieve – the biggest hair trends this season are music to our ears. This low maintenance style was most notably seen at Victoria Beckham, where the models’ low ponies were parting-free and ultra glossy. We achieved ours with some Sachajuan Finish Cream for added sleekness, plus a spritz of the Sachajuan Hairspray to keep everything in check. Add a ribbon à la Roksanda, and you’ll be channeling autumn in no time.
